Over the past several months I have been amazed at the generosity of our church family. Each year we give Christmas cards to each child at Show Me Christian Youth Home. Individuals choose a child’s name, write in their card, and insert $20. This year there are 59 children at Show Me. Every card was taken the first week they were available. Amazing.
As you know, we are in a tough ecomony right now. I am amazed at the number of people who help others at Christmas. Many of you have brought food for the Beacon distribution, adopted a family, brought clothing for Faith Hope homeless men’s shelter in Kansas City, and gift cards or money for “someone in need”.
As we have done sermon and small group series on The Treasure Principle and Live to Love, the response has been remarkable. Your creative Love Works will be remembered for years to come. I have been told that a church in a nearby community has been inspired by our Love Works at a Fort Scott nursing home. The church decided that, even though they are very small, they can make a difference at their local nursing home as well.
As you probably know, our remodeling fund is nearing our goal before the remodeling has even begun.
My dad recently moved to Presbyterian Village from central Missouri. He has been a Christian for about 70 years and this was his unsolicited comment to me a few days ago. “Marcy, I have never seen a church that gives like your church does.” I think that sums it up pretty well.
At this season of giving, I am thankful to be a part of a church body that responds to the voice of the Holy Spirit. As you give and receive gifts this Christmas, remember that you are imitating the Giver of the first, best, and most sacrificial Christmas gift of all.

Fend off the flames…again!
We had a huge crowd at our first showing of Fireproof (see below) so we are going to fan the flames…eh…fuel the fire…eh…no, this is about keeping the flames away isn’t it? Whatever the idiom we’re not using correctly, the burning issue is that we will screen Fireproof again on Wednesday night, February 4 2009. If your wood was wet the first time, or want to set off a spark in someone else’s life, this will be your second chance to light the fire. We’ll just call it a bond-fire! Come!
“FireProof” at CCC
Get ready to take the “Love Dare” via the movie Fireproof. Fireproof will be screened at CCC on January 4 at 6pm. All are welcome, so invite a friend! To get a taste of Fireproof you can view the Fireproof trailer.
We’ll also be utilizing the movie to launch a Small Group Session on marriage which will begin on Sunday night, January 11. Get your group together, form a new one, or find a group to be a part of!
